Practical Experience

I have had the privilege of working across various sectors in mental health, gaining diverse experience in different settings, including:

• Capital & Coast District Health Board – Worked as part of a community mental health team and within inpatient forensic services.
• Massey University, Student Health and Wellbeing Service – Provided counseling in a primary care setting, supporting students’ mental health and well-being.
• Te Awakairangi Health Network – Delivered counseling in a primary care setting, working with a diverse community across the Hutt Valley.

In South Africa, I gained valuable experience working for an NGO specializing in addiction treatment. I then worked with another NGO exclusively supporting individuals affected by sexual trauma. My final role in South Africa was with a private company, where I worked with a range of cases from mild to severe—providing short-term EAP support, debriefings, and trauma therapy for individuals and groups impacted by extreme violence.
